How To Delete Binance Account

In this article, we will be walking you through a step-by-step process of removing your funds safely and then deleting your Binance account. We'll also look at some alternatives that you may find more attractive, and some reasons why you may want to reconsider your decision to leave altogether.

With the recent wave of negative press about cryptocurrencies, many users are starting to wonder whether they should remove their funds from an exchange and put it into a more traditional investment. Sometimes, actually removing an account entirely may be a bit trickier than you think.

In this article, we will be walking you through a step-by-step process of removing your funds safely and then deleting your Binance account. We'll also look at some alternatives that you may find more attractive, and some reasons why you may want to reconsider your decision to leave altogether.

Let's jump in!

Consider the Alternatives

If you have any desire to stay involved in crypto moving forward, it may be worthwhile to first examine the alternatives to Binance. Gemini, Kraken, and Nexo are all excellent exchanges with user-friendly interfaces and a wide variety of supported coins.

Each has its own strengths and weaknesses, and Sortter provides an advanced comparison that can help you decide which is the best fit for you.

Deleting Account vs Disabling Account

Like many other financial services, there are two different options a user has when trying to cut ties. If there is any potential for you to return in the future, disabling your account is the best option. This will keep most of your information and data on file but prohibit you from logging in or using the site.

Disabling can also be used if there is any suspicious activity on the account, as it will lock it down and prevent any further damage. It can then be re-engaged after two hours.

The process to disable your account can be started in the app, on a desktop browser, or in one of several emails including IP Verification or Password Reset.

If you're sure there's no turning back, deleting your account permanently removes everything – including your personal data. Importantly, this option won’t be available unless you are currently holding less than 0.001 BTC.

How to Prepare for the Deletion

Once again, it is important to note that this is a permanent decision, one that cannot be undone. If you are sure that you want to delete your Binance account, you will first have to clear it of any funds. The option will not appear until your account is under 0.001 BTC.

If you do not want to withdraw your funds, the exchange makes it easy to transfer coins to another platform. Sending Bitcoin and other crypto to Gemini, for instance, is as simple as sending as filling in an address and clicking a button.

There are other ways, including sending crypto to non-Binance users or using the NFT marketplace to purchase a gift

Now that your wallet is empty, you’re ready to delete it.

How to Delete Your Binance Account

You've withdrawn or transferred your coins, considered the alternatives, and have decided that disabling isn't the right option. To delete your account, follow these steps:

  1. Login to the Binance app or website
  2. Choose ‘Security’ from the profile dropdown menu
  3. Click on ‘Disable account’
  4. Choose ‘Delete this account’
  5. Enter your contact information
  6. Click ‘Confirm to delete’

Let’s take a closer look at each of these steps to answer any questions you may have.

1. Log In to the Binance App or Website

The first step to deleting your account is simple: navigate to the website or open the app on an appropriate device and log in with your correct credentials.

Once you have entered your username and password, hover or click on the profile icon at the top of the page.

2. Choose ‘Security’ From the Dropdown Menu

With the dropdown menu open, there will be several options including API Management, Reward Center, Task Center, and the Referral page. Find ‘Security’ and click on it.

3. Click on ‘Disable Account’

This menu is used for device management, Google authentication, and identity verification.

Even if you have decided to delete your account, you’ll have to first click on ‘Disable account’ to start the process (found under ‘Account Activity’ on the website). This gives you one last chance to take the other route, or easy access to quickly disable it in case of suspicious activity.

4. Choose ‘Delete This Account’

On the next page, it will give you the option to disable or delete your account. Importantly, the delete option will only appear if you are holding less than 0.001 BTC.

If it does not appear there, you likely haven’t yet prepared your account properly and should go back to make sure it is empty.

When ready, click on ‘Delete this account.’

5. Enter Your Contact Information

Since this is a permanent process and will delete all of your personal data, you will have to provide some contact information to ensure it’s actually you. Your email address or phone number will be required.

Make sure to use the number or address that is attached to the account.

6. Click ‘Confirm to Delete’

That’s it. Once you’ve clicked ‘Confirm to delete’ your account will be immediately disabled. It will take some time for the platform to manually review the deletion, to make sure that the request has been properly filed.

Now it’s time to wait for confirmation. If there is an issue, or you do not receive confirmation, contact Binance Support. Remember, this is permanent and if you ever wish to return to the platform, you’ll have to go through the process of creating an entirely new account.

Have some doubts? Read through the next step-by-step procedure and see how you can disable your account. This way, you can reactivate it any time you want.

How to Disable Your Binance Account

If you decide that there is a chance you will want to reopen the account in the future, disabling is also an option. Here are the steps to disable your account:

  1. Login to the Binance app or website
  2. Choose ‘Security’ from the profile dropdown menu
  3. Click on ‘Disable account’
  4. Choose ‘Disable this account’
  5. Click ‘Disable’

Let’s take a closer look at each of these steps to answer any questions you may have.

1. Log In to the Binance App or Website

Just like deleting your account, the first step in disabling is simple. Navigate to the website or open the app on an appropriate device and log in with your correct credentials.

Once you have entered your username and password, hover or click on the profile icon at the top of the page.

2. Choose ‘Security’ From the Dropdown Menu

To this point, the process remains the same. With the dropdown menu open, find ‘Security’ and click on it. Remember that if you are on the website, this will be found under ‘Account Activity’ near the bottom of the page.

3. Click on ‘Disable Account’

Whether you have transferred out your balance or not, this option is still available so that you can quickly shut down an account that may have some suspicious activity.

Click ‘Disable Account’ and it will take you to the next step.

4. Choose ‘Disable This Account’

Here’s where things change. When you disable an account, it does still delete some of the personal information attached to it. If you choose to click ‘Disable this account’ it will cause the following:

  • All trading capacities and login for your account will be disabled
  • All API keys for your account will be deleted
  • All devices for your account will be deleted
  • All pending withdrawals will be canceled
  • All open orders will be canceled

You will not be able to reactivate the account for two hours, so be sure that you understand the consequences before you proceed any further.

5. Click ‘Disable’

There will be one last chance to turn back. Once you click ‘Disable’, it will immediately shut it down, and you will not be able to start the reactivation process for two hours.

Why You Should Consider Keeping Your Account

Despite some of the negative headlines, Binance remains one of the most popular cryptocurrency exchanges in the world. The company has a well-deserved reputation for being user-friendly and reliable, with a wide range of features that make it attractive to both experienced traders and beginners.

At Sortter, Binance has an overall rating 4.6/5 and ranks above average. Learn more about the platform and why it might still be the right place for you before you make the decision whether to delete or disable.

However, if you’ve decided that Binance isn’t the right exchange for you, or if you’ve simply decided that you no longer need an account, then deleting it is a straightforward process.

Make sure to follow these easy steps, and you shouldn’t have any issues.
